Saint Joseph Hospital Named a Leader in Emergency Care
In a hospital quality report released on Feb. 21, 2012, Saint Joseph Hospital ranks among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for emergency medicine — earning HealthGrades' first-time Emergency Medicine Excellence Award®.
The HealthGrades Emergency Medicine in American Hospitals report identified the top-performing hospitals in the area of emergency care. HealthGrades, an independent healthcare ratings company, analyzed mortality data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for virtually every hospital in the country.
We are one of only six hospitals in Chicago, 20 in Illinois and 263 nationwide to receive this recognition. Those hospitals with the lowest mortality rates performing in the top 5 percent in the nation received the award.

We Rank in Top 5 Percent of U.S. Hospitals - Earning 2012 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award
On January 24, 2012, HealthGrades named Saint Joseph Hospital a 2012 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence™ — ranking us among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals. We are only one of four hospitals in Chicago, 20 in Illinois and 263 nationwide to earn this distinction in 2012.
HealthGrades conducted the study, which objectively identified those hospitals with the best overall clinical performance across 26 medical diagnoses and procedures, to help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance. Hospitals in the top 5 percent consistently perform better across nearly all procedures and diagnoses studied.
To put it simply, people are more likely to have successful treatment, fewer complications and lower mortality at a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence.
